In the fall of 2022, I took part in a collaborative examination of the music and meaning behind Kentucky’s State Song produced by Kentucky to the World. With poet Hannah Drake and musicians Harry Pickens and Ben Sollee and a live audience of people who love Kentucky, we tried to understand the hold this 1853 melody has on our state where for 100 years it has been official anthem and ask whether it makes sense for the century to come.
